Accessibility

We aim at WCAG 2.1 level AA. Where the design pushes against that, the design gives way — the contrast figures below were measured, not assumed.

What is in place

  • A skip link to the main content, first in the tab order on every page.
  • One h1 per page and headings that descend in order, so a screen reader's heading list is a usable outline of the page.
  • Visible focus on every interactive element. The focus ring is never removed, and it changes colour on dark and blue grounds so it stays visible against each of them.
  • The mobile menu is a real button with aria-expanded, it traps focus while open, it closes on Escape and returns focus to the button, and it is removed from the accessibility tree entirely when closed.
  • Body text is never below 17px. Everything is set in relative units and reflows to 320px without horizontal scrolling; wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than the page.
  • The oversized numerals behind section headings are decorative and are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Motion is limited to short colour and position transitions, and prefers-reduced-motion reduces them to nothing.
  • No content depends on colour alone, and there is no audio or video on the site.

Contrast

The palette is small on purpose and each pairing was measured against WCAG 2.1 relative luminance:

  • Off-black on light grey page: 16.0:1.
  • Off-black on white card: 17.8:1.
  • White on the signal blue: 6.31:1.
  • Muted grey on off-black: 6.74:1.
  • Deep grey on the light grey page: 5.31:1.

The muted grey from our palette measures only 2.37:1 on the light page, so it is never used for text there — it appears on dark grounds and in non-text rules only.

Known limits

The site is built and tested by a small independent company, not audited by a third party. Wide tabular data is wide by nature; where a page carries any, it scrolls horizontally inside its own region on a narrow screen, which is a compromise rather than a solution.
